What Should I Look For When Buying A Chainsaw?

What Should I Look For When Buying A Chainsaw

Well, that’s exactly what I’ll be going over in this post. I’ll be revealing the top 3 things you should consider when getting a chainsaw.

Bar size

First of all, you need to consider the bar size, you need to understand what tasks you’ll be doing. Do you plan on pruning? Then anything 14 inches and under will do. I would not recommend going over a 14-inch bar for pruning because it’ll be too heavy which can be dangerous.

When it comes to felling trees, it all depends on the size of the tree and the type of tree. For example, if you want to cut down a 20-inch hardwood oak tree, you’re going to want to go with a 22+ inch chainsaw bar. This is to make sure the bar can go all the way through.

The general rule when it comes to cutting is for the bar to be 2 inches bigger than the item you’re cutting. However, this isn’t always the case. If you have a bit of experience with using a chainsaw, you can cut strategically to cut wood bigger than your bar. Creating a stump is one way to do this.

Engine

The size of the engine and type of engine depends on the task you’ll be doing. Let’s say you’re going to be splitting wood all day in the yard. Your best bet would be to go with a corded electric chainsaw.

Do you plan on off-roading? Then your best option would probably be a battery-operated chainsaw with a spare battery since battery saws are lighter. If you plan on doing more heavy-duty work, you’re best off with a gas chainsaw.

It all depends on the type of job you’re doing. The general rule of thumb is for lighter tasks to be done with an electric chainsaw and heavier tasks with a gas saw. However, some electric chainsaws these days are more powerful than gas saws.

When shopping for a gas chainsaw, you’ll often find the acronym, CC in the description. This simply means cubic centimeters. The higher the number, the more powerful it will be, generally speaking.

Brand

The most known chainsaw brands are Husqvarna and Stihl, they’ve been around for a long time and they’ll get the job done most of the time according to users. But there are up and coming brands such as Oregon and Coocheer. Users are enjoying these chainsaws as they’re great at cutting and cost-effective. I would recommend checking out the reviews and doing your research.

It’s worth keeping in mind that chainsaw brands can receive their chainsaw from the same manufacturer. The brand is just different, that’s all.

Conclusion

So those were my top 3 things you should consider when buying a chainsaw. Remember, the chainsaw you buy comes down to the task you’re doing. Just because your chainsaw is bigger, doesn’t mean it will do a better job.
