Over the past year, as the UK has dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us have spent more time at home. This has sparked an unstoppable home improvement trend, with millions resolving to finally complete the renovation projects they had been putting off for months, perhaps even years!

If you intend to make your next move on the property ladder at any point in the near future, now is the time to optimize your home’s market value. You may be surprised by the positive impact a few well-placed improvements can have on both your home’s value and overall curb appeal.

To help inspire you, we’ve curated 10 of our favorite home improvement projects to boost your home’s market value. Let’s get started …

Paint your Garage Door and Clear it Out

Garages often place high on homebuyer’s wishlists. If you’re fortunate enough to own a property with a garage, a simple clearout and a coat of paint for the door can make your home appear even more attractive to prospective buyers!

De-cluttering can make any garage appear more spacious – and, repainting your garage in a neutral color can take years off its perceived age.

Replace your Windows

A brand new set of windows is always a considered purchase. With that said, a set of stylish new windows that complements your property’s decor is arguably one of the most valuable improvements you can make!

Today’s leading window companies offer their customers a wider choice of styles and designs than ever before. Whether you have a traditional or contemporary look in mind, you’re sure to find something that suits your taste and budget.

Newer windows also offer superior energy efficiency when compared to older models. Modern double and triple-glazing can provide significant savings on energy bills, which is a very attractive selling point for prospective buyers. And, of course, you can enjoy all these benefits yourself whilst waiting to sell your home.

Contemporary windows are available in various configurations, such as tilt-and-turn, flush-fit and reversible. Once you have chosen a window company, speak to a member of their team about which window type would best suit your requirements.

Update your Home’s Décor

Over time, homes can unintentionally become ‘time capsules’, showing off popular décor tastes from bygone decades. If the look of your home is distinctly dated, some prospective buyers may be deterred, even if the property meets most of their other requirements.

Don’t let them slip through the net! If your home has features such as bathroom carpets, avocado basins, or floral patterned wallpaper, you should seriously consider re-decorating before putting your home on the market. For the bathroom, consider tiled walls and floors. Stick to neutral color schemes for the walls and floors throughout the house and you shouldn’t go far wrong!

Invest in a New Patio Door

The addition of a patio door can introduce more light into your home, as well as providing easy access to your garden. Today’s patio doors come in an extensive range of attractive styles and designs and there are options available to suit every budget.

Today’s entry-level models provide better insulation and security when compared to most older models. If you’re prepared to pay just a little extra, you can get a patio door with features such as multi-point locking and self-cleaning glass!

Get Your Back Garden in Order

A well-kept garden is one of the most sought-after features among homebuyers. Make sure yours matches their high expectations. Trim your lawn, tend to those flowerbeds. Remove that rusting Wendy’s house and purge those stubborn cobwebs from the shed.

Finally, invest in some new ornaments (nothing too gaudy) and you should have a garden to be proud of!

Remove Excess Clutter from Your Home

Now is the time to remove anything you no longer need from your home. Any clothes you no longer wear can be bin-bagged and donated to charity. Appliances, games, or furniture you no longer use can be sold online, providing they’re in reasonable condition – if not send them straight to the tip.

Whilst removing clutter from your home, you also have the opportunity to hunt down any ‘hidden treasures’. Just think, that old painting, vase or chest of drawers in your attic could turn out to be a sought-after collectible. The money raised from the sale of these items could help significantly with the cost of moving to your new home!

No matter what you find, clearing out your home will make it appear more spacious and help to command a higher asking price from prospective buyers.

Treat Your Home to a Deep Clean

If you want to maximize your home’s value, it’s time to stock up on cleaning supplies. No, a perfunctory clean an hour before the viewing won’t cut it. You’ll need to attack any stubborn stains, dusty curtains, and grubby countertops with elbow grease.

Set aside a day (or longer if required!) to thoroughly clean every nook and cranny of your home. If it’s been a good while since your last deep clean, the finished result can be transformative!

Ready to Get Started?

We hope you found our article helpful and now have plenty of inspiration for your home renovation project. With a little determination, careful planning, and expert help, we’re confident you can command a great price for your home. It’ll be worth it all in the end!

No matter what you have in mind, we wish you the best of luck with your next step on the property ladder.

The moment you become a homeowner is like you’ve taken an unspoken oath committing to the maintaining of your home. That reason alone is why some people prefer to rent rather than own, but there is indeed a great reward in owning your home… it just comes with the responsibility of maintenance.

Unlike renting, owning a home leaves you solely responsible for any and all repairs needed… The days of putting in a maintenance request have been replaced by calling various specialists to take on jobs that are beyond your realm of knowledge.

In addition to knowing the home repairs that should be left to professionals, it’s also important to know the home repairs that all homeowners should know how to do as well. Yes, you can call the pros for those repairs but it would really be a huge waste of money when they’re easy enough for you to do on your own. This is not only going to save you money but it’s also going to help you learn the inner workings of your home.

Whether you’re a first-time homeowner or a seasoned vet, take a look at the home repairs you should be able to do without the help of professionals.

Easy Fixes All Homeowners Need to Know How to Do

Recaulk a Bathtub

Your bathtub was shiny and new when you first moved in, but over time, the moisture from humidity tends to wreak havoc on the caulking around your tub. When you notice the caulking around your tub start to fade away or see the growth of mold, it’s time to recaulk.

For this easy fix, you simply remove the old caulk with a utility/putty knife and wipe away residue. Tape the perimeters of the area you want to caulk, and then apply the caulk. Once applied, smooth with an ice cube and remove the tape… You now have a recaulked bathtub.

Hard Slams on Cabinets and Drawers

When you close your drawers or cabinets, do they make a hard slamming sound? If they do, this can easily be fixed. A simple trip to your local hardware store and buying rubber dots for cabinets is an easy fix.

Get Rid of Pests

Everyone wants a pest-free home, but depending on how severe your pest problem is, it can take a little more work than a simple can of bug spray. If your home is infested, then you, of course, want to call in the professionals but for minor issues and regular maintenance, here are a few pest control home maintenance hacks:

Keep your kitchen clean.

Place baking soda and sliced onion in the corners of your home to prevent roaches.

Place cucumbers in various areas where you notice ants. The smell of cucumbers is repulsive to ants and will run them out of your home.

Mix a cup of water with a cup of mint oil and spray it all over your home to keep spiders and other insects out of your home.

Unclog the Toilet or Sink

Every home should have a few plungers to unclog toilets and sings when they become clogged. The only thing to remember here is to make sure you get a different plunger for the sink than what you use for the toilet!

Patch Holes in the Wall

Whether you’re rehanging pictures or moving furniture around, our walls are prone to endure a few scrapes, holes, and dings… but it’s nothing you can’t remedy with a quick fix. For small holes or dings from a nail or screw, you can simply apply quick-drying spackle to make the wall look like there never were holes there in the first place. For bigger holes, you’ll need to go to the hardware store and get an actual patch kit.

All of these home maintenance repairs are easy fixes to maintain your home, and there are many more to learn. But if you feel yourself wanting to take on even bigger challenges like plumbing or electrical work, you mustn’t attempt those repairs on your own… you will indeed need the help of professional contractors.

The only way you’d be able to take on those kinds of repairs is if you follow the Virginia contractors license requirements & guide, that way you’d not only be able to work on your home but you could also work on other people’s homes, legally.

Until you get licensed, you will do just fine as a homeowner maintaining your home with these easy fixes.

Anyone with a crawl space under their property needs to put some extra effort into looking after this space. A crawl space can cause a lot of issues for your home if it is no looked after, and this is why many people end up looking for crawl space repair services to help keep the area in good condition. If you want to enjoy a pleasant living environment and an attractive home, making sure this part of your property is not neglected is important.

Of course, you can clean and maintain the crawl space yourself and this is something you should do regularly. However, there may be times when damage occurs that you cannot deal with yourself, or you may want to take precautions to prevent issues in your home. In cases such as this, you will need to call on an expert to come and take a look at the space under your home. In this article, we will look at some of the times when you may need to call on crawl space experts to come to your home.

Some Situations Where Experts Can Help

There are various situations in which you might need to get help from these experts. Some of these include:

Protecting Your Crawl Space

One of the things that many people decide to do is get their crawl space encapsulated, as this offers a high level of protection. By protecting the crawl space in this way, homeowners can prevent a huge range of serious issues when it comes to their homes. This includes infestations by pests, the spread of damp and mold, unpleasant odors, unstable supports, and a bad living environment.

Those who want to protect their homes can really benefit by starting with the crawl space, and this is where the professionals will be able to help.

Getting it Cleaned Up

Another reason you may want to turn to one of these professionals is if your crawl space is in pretty bad shape and you want it properly cleaned up. Once the main bulk of the work has been done by professionals, you will find it much easier to clean and maintain the area yourself on an ongoing basis. Getting experts in to do the main bulk of the job to start with can make a big difference, and it can make maintaining the space far more manageable for you.

Repairing Damage to the Area

Sometimes damage can occur in the space beneath your home, and this can be due to a variety of reasons. If this happens, you need to get it sorted out as soon as possible, as otherwise, it can quickly get worse and affect your entire home. So, if you notice any signs of damage that you cannot safely sort out yourself, getting the professionals in is an ideal solution. You can then get the damage sorted out quickly and efficiently.

These are some of the main reasons you may find yourself in need of a crawl space specialist.

When was the last time you took a long, hard look at your garage? If it looks like it’s seen better days, it may be time to give it some TLC.

Many homeowners think that garage maintenance starts and ends with the garage door. The truth is, the rest of your garage needs attention as well. In fact, organizing your garage should be part of your regular home maintenance.

The good news: keeping your garage tidy isn’t a difficult process. Here are four simple garage maintenance tips to get you started.

Keep Things Organized

Most of us use our garage space for item storage. If you don’t have a system in place, though, this area can easily become cluttered. On top of looking messy, this compromises the safety of the garage and may even lead to an accident.

To organize your garage effectively, you must come up with the right plan. Decide which items you want to keep and sell or donate anything you don’t need. Then, label things you’ve kept, determine where to store them, and stick to the system.

Watch Out for Leaks

Have you noticed any moisture stains along the walls of your garage? If so, there’s a chance you’re dealing with leaks or faults in the foundation. Similarly, a lot of moisture build-up during heavy rain is an indicator of roof leaks.

Your best solution to these issues is simple enough: timely garage repairs. If the foundation of your garage is in trouble, so is everything you’ve stored inside it. By reacting in time, you can stop the problem from spiraling out of control.

Protect the Garage Floor

Depending on how you use the garage, the floor may take a lot of beating from tools and vehicles. Over time, it can crack up and start creating leaks. Cleaning it can help, but sometimes you’ll need a stronger solution.

One way to preserve your floor is to apply a protective coating. Other than providing protection, floor coating can enhance the look of the garage as well. Companies such as TGG Garage offer plenty of coating options for all needs and budgets.

Inspect Doors and Windows

If your garage has worn-out windows, they’ll affect its looks and energy efficiency. The same goes for any doors other than the main one. Applying a fresh coat of paint or replacing the windows with new ones is often a smart investment.

Your doors and windows can also tell you if the garage has a foundation problem. For example, do they keep getting stuck in the frame while you’re opening them? If they do, this is a common indicator of a settled foundation.

More on Garage Maintenance

The best way to ensure your garage is working as intended is to inspect it from top to bottom. Make sure it’s in proper working condition, cleaned up, and well-organized. For best results, do this once or twice a year.

Hard water doesn’t necessarily cause physical harm to the human body, but it does consist of minerals typically magnesium and calcium ions, that makes soap and other types of detergents less effective when taking a bath, washing clothes, or doing the dishes. That’s because hard water leads to excessive buildup of scale in hot water heating systems, boilers, water pipes, as well as other types of equipment that use water. As such, homeowners end up using more amounts of shampoo and soap to make suds.

To make matters worse, over 85% of the water supply in America is rich in magnesium and calcium. Fortunately, though, there are several ways to conduct a hard water test so that you can prepare in advance for such a dilemma and you’ll find the best ones in this article.

Although the most accurate testing can be done from an independent laboratory based on the sample you provide them, it is a rather expensive and time-consuming option. The good news is that there are several ways to perform a proper test of your water supply from your own household and get quick results without spending pretty much anything.

Here are some DIY hard water tests that you can perform at home:

How to Test Hard Water at Home

Soap-suds Test

First, take a plastic or crystal clear glass bottle with a very tight cap, and then fill it with 1/3 water right from your house’s water faucet. The appropriate amount should be between 8 to 10 oz.

Next, add about 10 drops from your liquid dishwashing soap and shake it for approximately 10 seconds. After that, put the bottle down and look for the following results:

If you see the solution foaming up quick, which in turn makes plenty of suds, with the water below the suds being relatively clearer, it means that your water is at least fairly soft.

If your soapy solution doesn’t foam up that quickly, forming only a shallow sud layer, and the water beneath it is cloudy, it means your water is likely hard.

Hard Water Kit

If you’re looking for more accurate results, then you’re better off using a hard water test kit. These types of kits are usually sold in hardware and home improvement stores as well as several online retailers. But don’t just pick any hard water testing kit, look for those from renowned water testing manufacturers while also making sure that the kits test for water hardness. There are some kits that test for only certain contaminants such as radon, while others test for overall safety and quality.

One of the easiest tests that you can do is a wet strip test. This test is similar to those conducted for spa and swimming pool water. All you do is fill in some tap water into a container, carefully submerge the water strip into the water and then compare the color you get in your result to that of the testing kit’s strip chart. You’ll know what color your water supply’s hardness level is. To learn more about water hardness, visit American Home Water and Air.

Perform a Visual Check-up

Another simplistic water testing method that you can use to test the level of hardness in your water supply is performing a visual check-up of the things that your water comes in contact with. This means that you’ll need to inspect your bathtubs, sinks, plates, utensils, and more. One obvious sign of water hardness is the crusty scale build-up that is visibly seen on dishes and faucets. To get around this dilemma, you’ll need to install efficient and top rated water softeners.

Look up the Latest Water Quality Report

If your house is on the municipal or city water supply, you can get the latest report on its quality by calling the water utility. You’ll also find the most utilities post those reports online.

The reports can be quite technical and don’t necessarily indicate the quality of the water that gets inside your house as the water is tested upon leaving the treatment center. Because of that, the water picks up a variety of minerals on its way when going through the pipes straight towards your house. These reports give homeowners an idea about the hardness level in their water supply.

Water hardness levels are usually reported in mg/L or milligrams per liter in the form of calcium carbonate. Therefore, you need to take note of the calcium carbonate value that’s given in the water testing report and then compare it with the following U.S. Geological Survey scale:

Soft water: 0 to 60 mg per liter

Modest hard water: 61 to 120 mg per liter

Hard water: 121 to 180 mg per liter

Extremely hard water: over 180 mg per liter

Identify and Resolve Water Hardness Issues

There are several general signs that you need to observe when determining whether you have hard water or not. And if you do, we have just the hard water solutions prepared for you. Here are some of the hard water signs that you need to be wary of:

White Scale

You’ll notice hard water minerals will leave behind a white scale in your shower, bathtub, or kitchen sink. And if that’s where the issue lies, it could also be happening in your pipes. For this, you’ll need to have a branded water softener installed.

Check Your Laundry

If soap scum clings to the fabric of your clothes, making it rough and stiff, it means you have hard water. For this, we suggest:

Using more detergent

Increasing the temperature of your washing machine

Add some non-precipitating water conditioner into the washing machine before using any detergent

Look for Etching and Spots on Glassware

Another obvious hard water indication are white spots on glasses after you’ve washed them. These spots can cause etching that can permanently damage the glass. To get rid of this, you’ll need to use an abrasive cleaner like baking powder.

A New Year is on the horizon once again and with it comes new hope and the chance for a fresh start. Why not get started early by sprucing up your kitchen to welcome this new season of growth.

Even a minor kitchen revamp comes with a high ROI of 77% plus many hours of enjoyment and convenience.

Take a look at these 2021 kitchen renovation ideas to get your creative DIY juices flowing.

White Kitchens Are (Still) a Thing of the Past

White on white is so 2018 and while some white’s unavoidable in kitchens, we’re seeing wonderful pops of blues and green shades coming to the fore.

Use them liberally on kitchen cabinet doors, kitchen islands, backsplashes, and other accent pieces if you want to be part of the in-crowd when it comes to kitchens. Some of the best kitchen renovation ideas when it comes to painting are:

Mint green

Olive green

Hunter green

Navy blue

Turquoise

Pastel blue

Even pale pink is having a moment this year and if you prefer a bright vibrant color red, orange, and yellow aren’t out of the picture either.

Bring Tactile Texture into the Kitchen

One of the 2021 kitchen decor ideas that have spilled over from 2020’s living room design trends is the use of textures in kitchen design.

The main components of kitchen design are still sleek and contemporary but you can also embrace wicker, brick, wood, and mixed metals to add interest to otherwise smooth surfaces.

Plants are another colorful textural addition for breaking up the sleek smooth design of your kitchen.

Let There Be Light

Changing up your light fixtures has got to be one of the most rewarding improvements in any room. A new light fixture’s easy and inexpensive to install and can bring an instant transformation to any space.

Some of the biggest lighting trends for kitchens in 2021 are uniquely shaped light fittings and lamps crafted from unusual materials. Think glass balls, shaped polymers, acrylics, ceramics, and textile fringing.

Wood and metal are the top choices in light fittings thanks to their versatility and attractive appeal.

Energy-saving LED and CFL lights are the only fashionable option throughout your home. Period.

Become Secretly Organized

Nobody loves clutter and it’s especially unappealing in the kitchen. Invest in hideaway nooks to keep your appliances, groceries, and gadgets out of sight and out of mind.

Pantries and larder cupboards are the obvious choices but under counter and under-island storage is also in vogue right now. Keep garbage disposal units and recycling bins concealed out of sight in cabinets or specially-designed wooden frames.

These types of storage free up wall space to make room for interesting artworks to bring life and color to any kitchen.

Other big hits on the storage front are ancillary rooms like laundries, sculleries, and boot rooms to keep functional yet messy aspects under wraps.

Classy Cabinets and Countertops

One of the most innovative and convenient kitchen design ideas 2021 will see is the rise of the handle-less cabinet. These push-pull, clean-lined, and almost seamless under counter assets continue the sleek minimalistic trend and add contemporary convenience to any kitchen.

Walnut cabinetry and glazed finishes are the latest trends adding interest and aesthetic appeal to kitchens everywhere.

Dramatically-veined marble and quartz countertops are all the rage in line with the trend towards a textured appeal. Butcher block is a timeless classic that belongs in any kitchen.

Dress Your Kitchen Up With a ‘Hoodie’

Range hoods are one of the more functional as well as decorative kitchen decor ideas taking center stage in the kitchen nowadays.

Some of the more innovative designs include cylinder-shaped hoods with sculpted surfaces, scalloped edges, and disguised as lights or cabinets.

Now, range hoods needn’t be ugly elephants in the room, thanks to innovative designs they’re becoming an integral part of the kitchen’s overall design.

Island Styles for 2021

Apart from colorful paint jobs, kitchen islands are coming to the fore more than ever before with unique shapes and configurations.

Ideally suited to larger kitchens, double islands in a U-shape featuring a dining area in the middle are a popular addition for those who want more space for food preparation.

If a double counter’s a little too much for your available space, an L-shape will do. Kitchen islands on casters also add space-saving panache to any smaller kitchen. You can even flex your DIY muscles by converting a vintage find into a space-saving kitchen island.

Eco-Friendly Kitchen Trends

Apart from recycling vintage finds, other eco-friendly kitchen design trends include using bamboo and other sustainable countertops, flooring, and decor options.

Water-efficient faucets and tankless water heaters also help to save water and energy in the kitchen.

With the latest high emphasis on hygiene and cleanliness, water purifiers are the must-have accessory for every kitchen. Learn more about whole house water filters and other types of water purifiers to ensure your family stays safe and healthy this year.

We’re all taking steps to live a more eco-friendly existence and it all begins with removing plastic from our lives. Water purifiers mean you never have to deal with the expense, inconvenience, and guilt of buying bottled water ever again.

What’s Next In 2021 Kitchen Renovation Ideas?

If 2020’s taught us one thing, it’s to expect the unexpected. It’s best to follow the same principle when considering kitchen design ideas for the coming year.

There’s no telling what design ideas may come to the fore once the new year is underway. Keep tabs on our blog for more 2021 kitchen renovation ideas as they come to light. Follow HomeInside for more!

Rain isn’t your only concern as a homeowner.

In a matter of seconds, powerful winds can sweep through your neighborhood, leaving damage in its wake.

Is your roof prepared to withstand wind storms?

Homeowners spend more than $4,500 on average for roofing repairs and replacements. Fortunately, there are several ways to reduce roofing costs and prevent further wind damage.

Don’t lose your roof to a wind storm. Follow these tips to fix and prevent wind damage to roof systems.

Inspect Your Roof for Damages

Do you consider yourself a home improvement pro?

If so, your first step is to audit your roof for damages. Check every detail, including gutters, flash, downspouts, roofing materials, and any rooftop equipment like HVAC units. Wind storms also damage heavy rooftop equipment, which creates leaks and safety concerns.

If you’re not a pro, step away from the ladder.

Book a roof inspection with a credible roofing expert from a renowned company to replace and repair any issues your roof may have. If you are a resident in Atlanta, Georgia, for instance, look for an Atlanta roofing contractor who will give you the best roofing advice on the best replacements and repairs to make. Plus, a top-rated expert can suggest the best ways to prevent further damage. You may need an entirely new roofing system altogether.

Signs of Wind Damage to Roof Systems

Common signs of wind damage include broken tree branches, peeling shingles, loose roofing materials, cracks and bubbling, loosened downspouts, clogged gutters, soffit damage, and leaks.

Leaks caused by wind damage leads to harmful outdoor and indoor mold. Patch up leaks right away, and consider a partial or full roof replacement. Look for water spots and cracks in your interior walls and ceilings.

One of the most overlooked signs of wind damage is chimney problems. Powerful winds can shift your chimney, breaking its lashing and sealing in the process, which leads to roof leaks.

Old Roofs Are No Match for Wind

Is your roof more than 20 years old? Old roofing doesn’t stand a chance against strong winds. Consider replacing your roof before storm season hits. You can use stainless steel angles for structural support.

If you can’t replace your roof right away, patch up vulnerable spots and loose granules as you wait. Ensure your new roof comes with a tough, watertight seal.

Fixing Roof Damages

If you’re a handy homeowner, you could patch up your own repairs, but roof patching is not a long-term solution.

You need to replace any damaged shingles or tiles, roof membrane, flashing, spouts, and gutters. Buy a reliable caulking gun, cement or another roofing adhesive, new shingles, crowbar, nails, and hammer.

Remove all damaged roofing material first. You may need to replace your siding, as well. Replace damaged shingles with adhesive, and smooth and scrape away the excess cement.

DIY repairs are best for minor issues like broken shingles. Many homeowners miss wind damages, like water leaks in the attic or insulation. This service takes an even closer at the deep decay and damage left behind by powerful winds.

Run Like the Wind to Fix Your Roof

Your roof is one wind storm away from another repair bill. Prevent wind damage and save money in the long-term with a windproof roof. Undertake your own DIY project or talk to an expert who can help.

Old Glory. The Stars and Stripes. The Red, White, and Blue.

No matter the name, the Star-Spangled Banner remains the most recognizable flag in the world. A potent symbol of freedom, hope, and America’s unique history, it deserves special respect.

It’s the inspiration for our national anthem. And countless American soldiers have shed their blood and given their lives in its defense. The flag’s history started with a resolution approved by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.

In the resolution, they declared the flag would have “thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field representing a new constellation.”

While the number of stars has grown significantly since then, the design they laid out in this resolution remains remarkably similar more than 200 years later. Here’s what you need to know about how to hang a flag and other etiquettes.

American Flag History and Etiquette

As legend has it, the first American flag was designed and sewn by Betsy Ross. Before 1777, however, the American patriots fought under a variety of different banners. These included the yellow “Don’t Tread on Me” flag, featuring a coiled rattlesnake.

Some historians suggest Washington originally fought under the Union Jack. After all, the rebels had yet to develop the concept of the American nation at the onset of the war. Yet, this would have proven confusing to have both sides fly the same flag on the battlefield, hence the introduction of new banners.

It wasn’t until the Civil War era that flying the flag became a regular custom at peoples’ residences. From about 1861 onward, the Union came to celebrate the Red, White, and Blue as a quasi-religious symbol.

During the Civil War, civilians became fervently aware of how many soldiers sacrificed their lives to end slavery and for the right to fly the flag. Of course, it wouldn’t be until the 20th century that a whole American flag etiquette system was born, known as the US Flag Code.

Among the Code’s many rules are guidelines for how citizens should treat Old Glory. These guidelines include placing your right hand over your heart when the flag passes during a parade. You should also do this as it gets raised and lowered,

As for veterans and members of the armed services? They stand at attention while saluting.

Where did these rules originate? They were codified on June 22, 1942, when Congress passed a joint resolution. This resolution would later be amended on December 22, 1942, becoming known as the US Flag Code.

How to Hang a Flag 101

Always treat the flag with respect as an emblem of our nation and its people. It should be honored when on display. To do this, you’ll need to follow a handful of rules.

What’s the proper way to hang the American flag vertically? When you hang the flag on a window, wall, or door, take care that the union (blue section with stars) is oriented to the observer’s left. The same applies when you hang the flag horizontally against a wall.

This etiquette is based on the rule that it must be displayed flat when a flag is not flown. These rules apply for both indoor and outdoor displays. Remember that its folds should flow as freely as possible, as though staffed.

How should the flag get displayed when hanging from a building? The union must sit at the staff’s peak when hung on a staff projecting from the building.

How about a street? When displayed over a roadway, take care that the banner is suspended vertically. The union should face east when flown over a street that’s oriented north/south. If the street points east/west, the union should be directed to the north.

More Tips on Properly Displaying the Flag

If you’ve decided to display the flag behind a platform, it should sit above and behind the speaker. In this case, the union should appear above and to the speaker’s right as they face the audience.

During a funeral, flags are displayed over the caskets of veterans and members of the armed services. When the flag gets draped over a coffin, the union should sit at the head and over the left shoulder.

When in a procession, Old Glory must appear to the right of any other flag. In a line of flags, display it in front of the center of that line.

Never display the flag on a float except from a staff. Don’t drape it over the top, sides, back, or hood of a vehicle.

What’s the proper way to display it from a vehicle? By affixing the staff firmly to the chassis.

Rules for Raising and Lowering the Flag

Are there any rules governing how you hoist and lower the flag? Absolutely.

Always raise the flag briskly. As for lowering it, do so ceremoniously.

How about when you’re hanging the flag at half-mast? Raise it to the peak for a moment before lowering it to the half-staff position. When you lower it for the day, make sure to hoist it to the peak once more before its descent.

While in the half-mast position, the flag should sit one-half the distance between the staff’s bottom and the top. When should flags be flown at half-mast? To commemorate the death of any of the following officers (current or former):

President

Vice President

Chief Justice

Speaker of the House of Representatives

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court

Member of the Cabinet

President pro tempore of the Senate

Majority or Minority Leader of the House of Representatives

Senators

Representatives

Delegates

Commissioners

Resident Commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico

Governors

How long should you fly the flag at half-staff? That depends on the office the official held. For example, the flag should hang at half-staff for 30 days when the President or former President passes.

Display it for ten days from the official’s death for Vice Presidents and Chief Justices.

What about for Associate Justices, members of the Cabinet, former Vice Presidents, President pro tempore of the Senate, and Majority/Minority leaders of the House? Keep the flag half-staff from the day of death until interment.

The same goes for the Resident Commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and state governors.

When and Where Should the Star-Spangled Banner Get Displayed?

The US flag can and should be displayed every day at public and commercial properties. When it comes to peoples’ residences, there are certain days you should fly the flag. These include national holidays and special days such as:

New Year’s Day

Inauguration Day

Martin Luther King, Jr Day

President’s Day

Easter Sunday

Mother’s Day

Armed Forces Day

Memorial Day

Flag Day

Father’s Day

The 4th of July

Labor Day

Constitution Day

Columbus Day

Navy Day

Veterans Day

Thanksgiving Day

Christmas Day

State holidays or birthdays (dates of admission)

For Memorial Day, fly the flag at half-staff until noon. You should also consider hanging the flag on any day declared by the President of the United States.

As already noted, proudly display your American flag every day at public facilities. For schools, do so during the school year. Polling places should also fly the banner on election days.

Displaying Other Flags with the American Flag

If you’re going to display other flags along with the Red, White, and Blue, follow some additional etiquette. Never fly another flag above the American flag. If they fly at the same level, make sure the Stars and Stripes is to the right of all other flags.

Only at the United Nations headquarters is it permitted for the UN flag to be above the American flag. When displayed with a group of state flags, place Old Glory at the center and highest point.

When using the same halyard to fly multiple flags (e.g., state and city), the American flag must remain at the peak.

As for the flags of other nations? Display them on separate staffs at the same height. But remember, the US flag must be raised first and lowered last.

When displayed with another flag against a wall (both from crossed staffs), place the American flag on the right. Its staff should sit atop the other staff.

What Not to Do With the American Flag

Always treat the American flag and its likeness with the utmost respect. After all, countless people have given their lives in its defense. What’s more, it remains the primary symbol of all we hold dear in our republic.

Never do anything to cheapen or tarnish this vital symbol of our sovereignty and legacy. Examples of what not to do include:

Displaying the union upside down (except when in dire distress)

Dipping the flag to anyone, including government officials and the President

Allowing the flag to touch anything below it, such as water, merchandise, or the ground

Carrying it horizontally or flat instead of aloft and free

Using it as a ceiling cover

Placing something on it

Using it for advertising purposes

Displaying it on merchandise such as paper napkins, boxes, handkerchiefs, costumes

Storing it in a way that could damage, dirty, or tear it

Displaying the flag overnight

While these sound like straightforward and common sense tips, take care not to inadvertently violate one of these rules. Particularly when it comes to the American flag printed on costumes and other merchandise.

How to Retire and Dispose of an Old Flag

Over time, your flag will become dirty and torn from displaying it. Depending on where you live and the type of weather you receive, this may happen sooner than later. You must pay attention to the condition of your flag.

Quit flying it when its appearance no longer represents a fitting emblem of our nation. When this happens, destroy it in a ceremonious and dignified fashion, preferably by burning it.

What if you can’t or don’t feel comfortable disposing of your flag? Then, contact your local American Legion about the disposal of your Star-Spangled Banner. Most hold annual ceremonies, usually on Flag Day, to retire worn and aged flags.

Besides the American Legion, you could also contact your local Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts office. They may be able to provide flag retiring services.

American Flag Etiquette

You may be surprised by the detailed list of etiquette outlined above when it comes to displaying an American flag. But this US Flag Code ensures that our nation’s symbol gets flown with the utmost respect.

When you consider the sacrifices that those before us have endured to permit and preserve our right to display the Red, White, and Blue, proper care is a small sacrifice. Fortunately, you now have a much better concept of what this etiquette involves.

Now you know the correct way to hang the American flag vertically. You also understand how to hang it from a pole on a building or display it in a parade. In other words, you have the prescribed etiquette for each situation.

We’ve also gone over must-fly flag days as well as essential maintenance and care.

Home Master has taken care of this very need of the user and built a system that removes unwanted elements and retains the good minerals back in the water. This Home Master TMAFC-ERP RO model has an under-the-sink design and is found to be much advanced than the traditional units.

But what about the essential minerals present in the water that are actually beneficial to the body? Most efficient reverse osmosis systems remove all the minerals, including the good and the bad ones. If you have to add one mineral, then you will have to set a separate section with the mineral-addition thing.

Home Master TMAFC-ERP Undersink Reverse Osmosis System

There are so many RO brands out there competing with one another, which makes it difficult to choose the right system. You have to consider the features and functions, and their key specifications too.

In my opinion, the system should produce clean, great-tasting water and it should be easy on the operation and handling. Something that has a faster flow rate, and lesser water wastage. All these points are rightly considered on the Home Master Undersink RO!

Let’s find out the Installation details, and then I will discuss the flow rate of the model.

Installation

Number one thing – Home Master RO is an under-sink unit, so it is advisable to have sufficient space under the sink area. That’s so obvious right, anyway. Because of this quality, the size and shape of this RO are smaller than you imagine. Keep this in mind.

Well, home master tmafc erp installation is easy! If you keep all following the manual at a good pace, then you can get the setup done within 45 minutes!

A lot of the components arrive pre-assembled ~ installation won’t be time-consuming though.

All the components included with the RO model meet the NSF standards, both for safety and performance.

Faster Flow Rate

Here the RO system comes with a special permeate pump that doubles the efficiency of the model. Because of this setup, there is an excellent reduction in water wastage by 80%, and an increase in water production by 50%!

Modular Design of the Filter

There is this one challenging thing about the filters used in an RO system. Most of them come with a removable filter and a fixed housing. Therefore, even if the filers are changed, the housing part remains fixed. If you don’t take care of the housing properly, then it will soon be home to sediments, microorganisms, etc.

Eventually, the system will weaken and there will be leakages!

To escape all these troubles, Home Master has brought a solution for you guys. They offer an all-in-one kind of design where the filter and the housing come as a single unit which means that the entire filter unit is disposable. In this way, filter changing work gets easy and there won’t be any buildups formation too.

Pros:

You get 7 stages of filtration, which also involves the removal of chloramine.

Calcium and Magnesium are added twice during the purification

Water wastage is reduced by 80%

Filters used here are long-lasting and also easy to change

You can use the same filter for one whole year or change it every 2000 gallons

Balances out the pH of the water

Fast Flow Rate

Cons:

The faucet is no fancy, though it works!

If your home water supply is high on microorganisms, then this Home Master RO is exactly what you need for the treatment. The extra layering of the UV filter will keep the water safe from viruses, bacteria, and other microbes. All of these elements are killed with the help of the UV light, and that’s how the water is purified.
