6 Ways To Make Your Old Kitchen Flourish Again

Is your kitchen beginning to look a bit old and dated? Or maybe you’re simply getting bored of your unexciting kitchen? Well, then let’s take a look at 6 ways to make your old kitchen flourish again.

  • Get new furniture and furnishings

There are many simple and not-so-simple fixes you can carry out to make your kitchen flourish again. However, if you only have time for the most simple methods, the simplest of all is to just buy new furniture. You can do this cost-effectively by checking out second-hand or discounted furniture that people no longer need. Simply adding new furniture to your kitchen can give it a new lease of life without the need for any time-consuming or difficult DIY work.

  • Upcycle your old furniture

Furniture eventually becomes worn and well used as years go by. When this happens, many of us may feel pushed to have to get rid of it and purchase new replacement furniture. However, instead, you should think about upcycling your existing furniture to make fresher-looking furniture that oozes style.

You could replace your table tops and legs, repaint furniture, replace hinges, or give everything a complete makeover. Not only will this make your furniture more functional again, but your kitchen will also get a fresh new style and aesthetic.

  • Enhance your lighting

Investing in new lighting and light fittings could drastically alter the aesthetic and atmosphere of your entire kitchen. Opt for light styles and fixtures that match well with your kitchen’s existing accents for a cohesive look.

You might create a focal point of the room with a luxury pendant light, or you could think more practically, using focus lighting to brighten up preparation areas. For a modern twist, consider fitting coloured lighting around the perimeter of drawers and cabinets.

  • Repaint the walls

Darker shades and tones might provide depth, but they can also make a room appear cramped and dreary. If your kitchen appears tiny, empty, or dull, apply a lighter layer of paint to give a larger, bolder, and more roomy appearance.

To begin with, make your kitchen ceiling the first priority, as the ceiling is generally the first section of the room to change colour over time. Sand the walls to eliminate harshness and debris, and then paint the walls in a fresh and clean white, cream, or pastel.

  • Repaint the cabinets

Painting the walls isn’t the only way to add colour to your kitchen. Cabinets may be painted to make them stand out.  Sand the surfaces before beginning to paint – however, you don’t have to completely sand down the current finish on the cabinets and drawers, as you only need to remove the shine.

  • Add a backsplash

Placing a backsplash in your kitchen could make a huge difference in the way it looks. Even with only white subway tile and aged wooden cabinetry, it feels contemporary. Patterned ceramic tiles are even more eye-catching, especially if you just have a little space, or one wall where you want to make a huge statement. You can also make a backsplash out of old shiplap or beadboard panels, which are both attractive and affordable.

And there you have it – 6 simple but effective ways you can make your old kitchen flourish again, with fantastic options to suit all budgets.
