9 Ways to Make Your Bedroom More Tranquil

Having a tranquil ambience in your bedroom is essential to getting good, quality sleep. Everyone knows this and yet many of us still struggle to make it happen. It’s actually very easy and it only involves a few simple steps.

1. Use soft lighting

Lighting can really make a huge impact on how a room feels. We often think brighter is better but when it comes to the bedroom, soft lighting is key. Think warm colors like yellow and orange. If you still have that fluorescent bulb in your lamp, replace it with these colors instead. They help create a lovely, soft glow that’ll make you feel relaxed in the evenings.

2. Upgrade your mattress

Your mattress should be a place where you want to retire by the end of the day. But if it’s causing you discomfort, you should replace it. The feel and size of your mattress can impact your sleep so make sure to keep these factors in mind when shopping for a new one. Check the material it’s made of and consider upgrading to a bigger size. It’s going to cost a bit more but it’ll be worth the price for the years of quality shuteye you’ll get.

3. Aromatherapy

Calm and pleasing scents can drastically change the mood of a room. There are many ways you can do this in your bedroom such as lighting a scented candle, using a diffuser, or spritzing your pillow with sleep spray. Even slathering on a luxuriously scented hand cream can make a difference. You want to opt for relaxing scents like lavender, vanilla, and jasmine.

4. Strictly no-work

Your bedroom should only be a place of relaxation and nothing more. If you do activities like working or exercising in here, you will come to associate it with those things, making it difficult to sleep. You should limit your activities in this space to calming ones such as napping, reading, listening to music, cuddling with your partner, etc.

5. Take away technology

Gadgets are great but they’re another thing that can keep you up at night. As much as possible, you want to take away anything technology-related from your room. This includes your phone, laptop, tablets, and the TV. Also hide the mass of snakey wires that’s contributing to a cluttered view.

6. Get rid of clutter

Speaking of clutter, a cluttered space is a cluttered mind. If you want to have tranquility in your bedroom, you need to get rid of clutter. Put little knick knacks away and store them in your drawer. Move unnecessary furniture to another room. You don’t need to get rid of these things completely. You just have to keep it out of view.

7. Have a plant

You will be surprised by how quickly a plant can change your mood. Consider adding a potted plant by your bedside or near the window. The right indoor plant will not only enhance your disposition, it’ll also help improve the air quality in your bedroom.

8. Use white noise

Adding in noise to your bedroom may seem counterproductive but there’s such a thing as white noise which drowns out annoying outside noises that might keep you up. An example of white noise is the hum of your air conditioner, a TV static, or a whirring fan. If you already have these sounds in your room, great. But if not, you can use a machine that plays these sounds. They’ll have a variety of white noises to choose from such as ocean waves crashing, a waterfall, crickets, etc.

9. Make your bed

Don’t leave the bedroom in the morning without making your bed first. This’ll give you a productive start, and will get you excited for bedtime later. Really, who doesn’t want to jump on top of a clean bed?

Which of these tips are you going to try first? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
