6 Ways Ants Can Harm Your Home and Family

We all know not to let any kind of ants make a home in our house. But, not many of us know the reason behind it. Even if you know some basic reasons, you might not be taking it as seriously as you should. These ants may look small and harmless, but a colony of them can wreak havoc. Here I have shared why you should get rid of house ants and how they pose a threat to your home and family.

Sabotage Your Food

Some of you might be wondering how much food these little creatures can take from our stock. That’s not the problem. A few grains of rice would be enough for an entire colony, but they get mixed in our food and sabotage it for us. You can’t use rice or sugar if there are ants inside it. Many food stocks are destroyed in this way. Likewise, they would attack your meals if left open. Once there are dozens of ants on your food, there is no way you can eat it again.

Painful Bites

There are several types of ants, all of them bite, and all of them hurt. The bite of some types, like fire ants, hurt a lot more than others. While we adults can take care of ourselves, it is a big problem for kids and patients in the house. Too many bites of ants can cause anaphylaxis, and healthy adults have actually died from it. While death might be a long shot, none of us would want to take a risk and put our kids at danger.

Spread Diseases

You don’t know where those ants have been. They crawl in sewerages, toilets, and inside the earth, taking many diseases with them. You should not eat food if an ant walked on it. It would have left something behind that could lead you to a health hazard. Other than the food, their crawling all around the house makes it unsanitary.

Property Damage

Ants can cause similar damage to your home as termites. Ants can create their nests inside anything. Once they have built a nest, you will see it destroy things around it. They most commonly start a colony on wood surfaces, door frames, walls, and any appliance that is not commonly used. Ants don’t just create a home for themselves, they tunnel through it, hollowing your property from the inside.

Attract Other Insects

Ants attract many other kinds of insects and even bats. They are food for many dangerous insects like widow spiders, making your home appealing for them. There have been cases of bats entering properties to feed on ant colonies.

They Spread Fast

You might think a few ants are harmless, but they spread fast. Ants are actually pretty smart insects. If you attack a colony, they divide into smaller teams for survival. They work with discipline and teamwork. So, once a few ants find their way to your home, you will see their family following them.
